Cybersecurity Engineer

Supporting PM C2 Transport

Location: Augusta, GA

Security Clearance: Secret

Salary: 100K-150K Annual; Commensurate with Education/Experience

Position Purpose

The Cybersecurity Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and defending the enterprise network infrastructure. This position ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of mission-critical systems by hardening network components, ensuring compliance with security standards, and providing expert-level security analysis. The role serves as a subject matter expert on network security, proactively identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities and responding to network-based threats.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Security Architecture & Implementation: Designs, implements, and maintains secure network architectures. Leads the security testing and hardening of new IOS code for routers and switches, and ensures all new infrastructure is deployed with secure, compliant configurations.
  • Compliance & Hardening: Owns the application, validation, and documentation of current Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) across all network devices. Develops, maintains, and audits secure baseline configurations to prevent configuration drift and ensure a constant state of inspection readiness.
  • Vulnerability & Risk Management: Conducts comprehensive risk analyses and vulnerability assessments of the network infrastructure. Provides technical leadership and recommendations on secure networking solutions and architectures to mitigate identified threats.
  • Security Operations & Incident Response: Serves as the Tier-3 technical lead for network-based security incidents. Leads advanced troubleshooting and forensic analysis to identify the root cause of security events and implements corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Strategic Planning & Integration: Collaborates with network engineering and project management teams to integrate security requirements into the project lifecycle. Participates in enterprise security architecture planning, evaluation, and documentation to ensure alignment with defense-in-depth and Zero Trust strategies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of network security principles and hands-on experience with security hardware and software (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN gateways).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and audit security frameworks and hardening guides, such as DoD STIGs and CIS Benchmarks.
  • Strong command of Layer 2/3 routing and switching protocols, client/server environments, and secure network design methodologies.
  • Proficiency with network vulnerability scanning tools and the ability to analyze results to prioritize and execute remediation actions.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to apply cybersecurity principles to defend against sophisticated, modern threats.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, Security+, or CEH.
  • Experience with log correlation and analysis using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms.
