Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer IV to design, develop, and maintain software solutions supporting tactical network operations. The candidate will work closely with various Army stakeholders to gather requirements, produce high-quality software prototypes, and ensure full deployment and integration into operational environments. The role requires both technical software development expertise and strong communication skills to ensure alignment with user needs and mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Software Development: Develop innovative software solutions to meet changing operational needs by integrating new technologies, data sources, and communication protocols into tactical network environments.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with a range of Army stakeholders to gather operational requirements and ensure software tools meet the diverse needs of different communities within the tactical environment.
- User-Centric Evolution: Continuously evolve software capabilities based on user feedback and operational demands, ensuring high-quality, secure, and efficient solutions.
- Prototyping and Full Deployment: Produce secure, high-performance software prototypes that transition smoothly from development to full deployment.
- Effective Communication: Communicate effectively with team members, government leadership, technical representatives, vendors, and end-users in both virtual and in-person settings.
- Technical Documentation: Ensure all software development processes are well-documented, including testing, documentation, and deployment processes.
- Operational Testing: Leverage test-driven development methodologies and operational feedback to ensure software functionality and performance meet mission-critical needs.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead efforts to incorporate new technologies, improve software processes, and maintain security standards throughout the software lifecycle.
Technical Skills and Requirements:
- Software Development Proficiency: Strong proficiency in software development using Java, C#, C, C++, JavaScript, or other related languages.
- Service Architecture and APIs: Expertise in working with REST, Open API, and other service-oriented architectures.
- Virtualization and Containers: Experience with virtualization and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and database management systems.
- Linux and Scripting Expertise: Proficiency in Linux scripting frameworks and automation using PowerShell for deployment and system configuration management.
- Version Control Systems: Hands-on experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and software management.
- Test-Driven Development: Experience with test-driven development methodologies to enhance software reliability and performance.
- Cross-Platform Solutions: Familiarity with Microsoft PowerShell and the development of cross-platform software solutions for tactical network systems.
- Operational Network Integration: Experience with the integration of tactical network systems, communication protocols, and security features for military operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Testing, or a related field. (Alternatively, an additional 7 years of related tactical network software engineering experience can substitute for the degree.)
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in tactical network software engineering functions.
- Demonstrated experience in developing software for tactical networks, ensuring high security, performance, and integration into military systems.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical solutions and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Experience with virtualization, containerization, and REST/Open API architectures.
