Lead Space Situational Awareness Domain Engineer

Department: Space&Air Force Programs
Office: Remote

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Target salary range: $135k-$205k. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

JANUS Research Group is seeking a Lead Space Situational Awareness (SSA) Domain Engineer to support System Integration and Cloud Management of the NOAA Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS). TraCSS is the Department of Commerce's enterprise solution for ingesting, archiving, processing, and disseminating SSA data and products. TraCSS provides conjunction analysis and warning services to commercial satellite owner/operators. In this role you will provide deep knowledge and experience in the SSA domain to the broader development team, helping the development team better understand the operational needs of the government customer.

The Lead Space Situational Awareness Domain Engineer will:

  • Perform the role of Lead SSA Engineer for the TraCSS System Integration and Cloud Management (SI/CM) team.
  • Provide expert knowledge and experience in the space situational awareness domain to the TraCSS SI/CM team.
  • Understand the various standard types and formats of data related to satellite ephemerides and meta-data and processes around orbital determination.
  • Understand astrodynamics, conjunction analysis and risk assessment, trajectory planning and optimization
  • Be familiar with the operational environment for TraCSS or similar operational SSA systems (e.g., the SSA tools of the 18th and 19th Space Defense Squadrons, Space-Track.org, and NASA's Conjunction Assessment Risk Analysis (CARA) office).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with 12 years of relevant experience. A Master's degree in science or engineering can substitute for 2 years of experience, and a PhD in science or engineering can substitute for another 2 years of experience.
  • Experience supporting SSA operations and system development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively in high-availability, mission-critical environments.
