Senior Aviation Military Analyst (Attack, Reconnaissance, Weapons & Munitions)

Department: Army Acquisition Programs
Office: Fort Rucker

JANUS Research Group is seeking a Senior Aviation Military Analyst with extensive expertise in Army attack and reconnaissance aviation, aviation weapons and munitions, and capability development. This position serves as the senior subject matter expert supporting Army Aviation modernization, operational analysis, requirements development, and future force initiatives related to attack and reconnaissance aircraft and associated weapons systems.

The selected candidate will provide technical and operational expertise on Army Aviation weapons employment, conduct aviation capability studies, support requirements development, facilitate Joint Working Groups, and produce high-quality analytical products that inform Army Aviation modernization and operational decision-making.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior subject matter expert for Army attack and reconnaissance aviation operations, weapons employment, and tactical doctrine.
  • Conduct operational and capability analyses supporting Army Aviation modernization and future force initiatives.
  • Analyze the tactical employment of Army attack and reconnaissance aircraft, weapons, and munitions to identify operational capability gaps and recommend solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise on the employment, integration, and sustainment of Army Aviation weapons systems, launchers, and munitions.
  • Develop white papers, concept papers, operational concepts, requirements documents, operational views, and technical reports supporting government objectives.
  • Lead and support aviation studies, operational assessments, operational test events, and capability development initiatives.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Joint Working Groups, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and other collaborative forums.
  • Evaluate emerging aviation technologies, weapons systems, and mission capabilities to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Support Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) activities, including capability requirements development and documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams conducting aviation studies, technology evaluations, and operational analyses.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level briefings and recommendations to senior military and government leadership.
  • Review and edit technical products to ensure graduate-level quality prior to government delivery.
  • Independently develop high-quality analytical products requiring minimal government revisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of Army Aviation flight and combat operations experience.
  • Rated Army Aviator with extensive experience in Army attack and/or reconnaissance aviation.
  • Senior Army Aviator Badge or Master Army Aviator Badge required.
  • Completion of military or civilian professional military education equivalent to one or more of the following:
    • Command and General Staff College (CGSC)
    • Intermediate Level Education (ILE)
    • Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course
    • Equivalent military or civilian staff development program
  • Demonstrated expertise analyzing the tactical operational employment of Army reconnaissance and attack aviation capabilities.
  • Extensive technical experience with the handling, planning, integration, and employment of current Army Aviation weapons, munitions, and launch systems, including:
    • Hydra 70 Rocket System
    • AGM-114 HELLFIRE Missile System
    • Associated launchers and aviation weapons platforms
  • Staff experience planning attack, reconnaissance, and air assault missions, including aviation weapons planning and mission integration.
  • Prior tactical operational management experience leading organizations of 400 or more personnel.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting capability management, combat developments, force modernization, or requirements development initiatives.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, executing, and facilitating Joint Working Groups.
  • Experience leading aviation studies, operational assessments, or operational test events involving capability development and technology evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop graduate-level technical products, including:
    • White papers
    • Concept papers
    • Requirements documents
    • Operational views
    • Technical analyses
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience briefing senior military and government leadership.
  • Ability to review and edit technical products to ensure high-quality deliverables requiring only minor government revisions.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as a Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP) in Army attack or reconnaissance aircraft employed by tactical Army Aviation organizations since 2010.
  • Experience serving as the primary author of a Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) approved Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) document.
  • Direct participation in an Army Aviation Capability-Based Assessment (CBA) supporting attack or reconnaissance aircraft.
  • Experience supporting Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA), Army Futures Command, or Army Aviation capability development organizations.
  • Knowledge of Joint force development, operational requirements generation, Army Aviation modernization, and acquisition processes.
  • Experience evaluating emerging aviation weapons systems, munitions, and mission technologies.
